End of EG1471

I am so sorry that I was in the "shit list".
I am not that kind of guy who like to do blogging. Before the last class, I made many make up posts. Suddenly I found it was like "taking drugs".
Maybe in the futrure I will like it.

Positivity leads to better health and a longer life

“ In 2002, Becea Levy, a psychologist at Yale University, collaborated with researchers for the Ohio Longitudinal Study, who have been following ageing in a cohort of people since 1975, and they made a very surprising finding: older people with a more positive attitude toward old age lived seven and a half years longer” (Hall, 2007). The study shows that positivity leads to better health and a longer life. There are two main reasons. One is that positivity leads to less anger and better brain patterns. The other is that positivity leads to less stress and, it helps people to get relaxation.

“Positivity” leads to better health and a longer life because it lets people reduce anger and have good brain patterns. In traditional Chinese medicine, when people are angry, it hurts people’s liver. When people are scared, it hurts people’s gallbladder. When people have positive attitude, they will have better functioning organs less affected by negative emotions like anger, fear or anxiety. The Wisconsin team also reported that the old people who regulated their emotions well had a distinctly different pattern of brain activity to those who did not (Hall, 2007). Such people who have good brain patterns have better emotional control and better health.

In addition, positivity leads people to less stress and makes people relax more. When people have a positive attitude towards life, they will be less stressed when they encounter difficulties. In today’s society, stress comes from everywhere: study, work, family… Because of stress, many people hurt themselves or even commit suicides. They don’t have the positive attitude, and thus, they hurt themselves during a fit of depression. Many people prefer to live in the country with beautiful natural scenery when they are old because they can get relaxation. Not everyone can have the condition, but with the positive attitude, they can relax everywhere and have better health. They relax in order to regulate negative emotion and, thus, have better health and longer life.

To sum up, study shows “positivity” has the effects that lead to better health and a longer life. One reason is that positivity leads to less anger and good brain patterns. The other reason is that positivity lets people be less stressful in life and relax better. With the two reasons, “positivity” gives us better health and longer life.

Rewrite of Academic Essay

This winter, many people died from cold winter in the north part of the world. A few years earlier, many people died from hot summer in France. The ice in the South and North Pole is melting; the level of sea is rising. In today’s world, there are many serious problems such as the abnormality of the four seasons and the rise in sea levels due to climate change. However, there are still some solutions to reduce the damages caused by these problems.

The most obvious problem is the abnormality of the four seasons. Many places’ climate has changed, either warmer or colder than the past 50 to 100 years. In the south part of China, in Guang Dong, Si Chuang and Gui Zhou Provinces, there had been very heavy snow this winter. Normally in winter, these places do not have snow at all. Some cities like Wuhan got the heaviest snow in more than half a century of above 27cm snowfall compared with no snowing in the past.

The other problem due to climate change is the rise in sea level. According to a study conducted by Columbia University that looked at the sea level rise due to climate change, there will be a rise in sea level in New York City of 11.8 to 37.5 inches and 9.5 to 42.5 inches in the metropolitan region by the 2080s. From Wigley, Barrow and Warrick's research, he also pointed out that “most estimates of the rate of global eustatic sea level change over the last 100 years, as derived from tide-gauge records, range between 1.0mm/yr and 2.0mm/yr”. The rise in sea levels is serious; many people lived in shoreline cities will have to face the problem of moving to higher places if their cities are drowned by sea.

Although there are already many negative consequences due to the climate change, we can still do some actions to minimize the damage. The effective way is to reduce the density of CO2. As most people known, CO2 is one of the greenhouse gases. It makes the earth like a greenhouse with temperature rising of 4℃ when the density of CO2 doubles.

On one hand, we can reduce our emission of CO2. For the individual, it is recommended to take public transport rather than driving his or her own car. Many countries such as China and Japan have already set laws to limit the CO2 emission of cars. For the commercial industries, CO2 limitation should also be implemented by the government.

On the other hand, we can increase the cover percentage of forests on the earth or simply plant more trees to absorb more CO2. UK Tree Planting said that “Each tree planted ‘offsets’ your environmental impact by ‘breathing’ in about 730 kg CO2 emissions over its lifetime of 100 years. It is estimated that the average person needs to save about 7,000 kg of CO2 per year”. Therefore, it is recommended to plant 10 trees every year for one person. In China, there are also people who donate money in helping the government to plant more trees.

On the whole, the problems we have faced are serious and we have seen their damages. However, if we keep trying our best to control the climate change by reducing the emission of CO2 and increasing the cover percentage of forests on the earth, the rise in sea level caused by climate change and the wealth we lose in the unusual hot summers or snowstorms will be minimize.
